Kohn, Kohn and Colapinto Selected by National Law Journal as America’s Elite Employment Trial Lawyers Finalist

Washington, D.C., September 25, 2015. The National Law Journal selected Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto to its second annual list of America’s Elite Trial Lawyers as a finalist in the Employment category. The firms chosen for this list “represent those law firms that are on the cutting edge of plaintiffs-side work in the United States and that have achieved exemplary results for their clients” stated yesterday’s announcement. The SEC Office of the Whistleblower post Notices of Covered Action where a final judgment or order, by itself or together with other prior judgments or orders in the same action issued after July 21, 2010, results in monetary sanctions exceeding $1 million. Subject to the Final Rules, individuals who voluntarily provided the Commission with original information after July 21, 2010, that led to the successful enforcement of a covered action listed below are eligible to apply for a whistleblower award. The Department of Justice announced settlements in the following False Claims Act lawsuits: Technology Integration Group Agrees to Pay $5.9 Million to Settle False Claims Act Allegations PC Specialists Inc., doing business as Technology Integration Group (TIG), has agreed to pay the United States $5.9 million to settle allegations that the company inflated the price of computers sold through another company to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) for use at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our Client Received the Largest Whistleblower Reward in World History of $104 Million

Bradley Birkenfeld broke the back of Swiss bank secrecy. He was the first Swiss banker to file a case under the IRS whistleblower law. The results were unprecedented. UBS bank (at the time the largest bank in the world) had to pay a fine of $780 million. They also had to close all known U.S. accounts, and for the first time in history, the bank turned over the names of 4450 U.S. taxpayers for prosecution in the United States. Mr. Birkenfeld obtained the largest ever individual qui tam whistleblower award in history, $104 million.

Dedicated to protecting whistleblowers, the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) was founded in 1988 by three experienced whistleblower-rights attorneys, Stephen M. Kohn, Michael D. Kohn and David K. Colapinto. Mary Jane was selected as the NWC's first Public Interest Law Fellow, and soon became a major leader in the NWC. She currently is the NWC corporate Treasure and serves on its Board of Directors. She founded the whistleblower protection blog, and for years managed many of the NWC's highly successful programs.
