Government Executive (govexec.com) published a review of  "The New Whistleblower's Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Doing What's Right and Protecting Yourself," by KKC Partner Stephen M. Kohn. A Whistleblower's Guide for the Trump Era discusses how whistleblowers will fare during the Trump Administration and reviews the new sections added to the updated version of the first-ever consumer's guide to whistleblowing. “Good whistleblowing is apolitical, and falls where it falls,” Kohn said in an interview with Government Executive. A disclosure “should be a neutral expose of waste, fraud and abuse and violations of law” regardless of who is president. Whistleblower to Receive $2.9 Million for Reporting Fraudulently Obtained Small Business Contracts

In a case filed under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act by a whistleblower, Virginia Beach based defense contractor ADS Inc. has agreed to pay the United States $16 million to settle allegations that it conspired and caused ineligible companies to improperly obtain contracts set-aside for small business and service disable veteran-owned companies. The whistleblower, Ameliorate Partners LLP, who filed the lawsuit in federal district court in the District of Columbia on behalf of the United States, will receive approximately $2.9 million. “Small or disadvantaged businesses serve as important engines of economic growth, and the United States utilizes small business set-aside contracts to aide those businesses in their development,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Chad A. Readler of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “When ineligible companies improperly obtain set-aside contracts, they prevent the small business community from receiving the assistance that Congress intended.” To qualify as a small business, companies must meet ...

Bradley Birkenfeld broke the back of Swiss bank secrecy. He was the first Swiss banker to file a case under the IRS whistleblower law. The results were unprecedented. UBS bank (at the time the largest bank in the world) had to pay a fine of $780 million. They also had to close all known U.S. accounts, and for the first time in history, the bank turned over the names of 4450 U.S. taxpayers for prosecution in the United States. Mr. Birkenfeld obtained the largest ever individual qui tam whistleblower award in history, $104 million.

Dedicated to protecting whistleblowers, the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) was founded in 1988 by three experienced whistleblower-rights attorneys, Stephen M. Kohn, Michael D. Kohn and David K. Colapinto. Mary Jane was selected as the NWC's first Public Interest Law Fellow, and soon became a major leader in the NWC. She currently is the NWC corporate Treasure and serves on its Board of Directors. She founded the whistleblower protection blog, and for years managed many of the NWC's highly successful programs.
