FBI Crime Lab Whistleblower’s Allegations Continue to Bring Reform
Washington, D.C. February 26, 2009. In 1993, former FBI SSA Frederic Whitehurst took on the daunting task of documenting forensic fraud and abuses in the world-renowned FBI crime lab. He led this effort with assistance from the attorneys of Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, LLP. As a direct result of information disclosed by Dr. Whitehurst, the U.S. Department of Justice issued an extensive report validating most of the his claims. This led the FBI to agree to unprecedented reforms in its crime lab.
Dr. Whitehurst’s efforts to bring reform to forensic science are still being felt to this day. The National Academy of Science recently released a report questioning many of the forensic science practices that he questioned back in the 1990’s.
