DOJ Recovered $2.2 Billion in False Claims Act Cases in 2022

In 2022, the Justice Department secured over $2.2 billion from 351 settlements and judgments in government fraud and abuse cases, marking the second highest annual total to date.

Since the 1986 amendments to the False Claims Act by Congress, which targets false claims for government funds and failures to pay dues to the government, the DOJ has recuperated more than $72 billion, as stated in their recent Tuesday announcement.

Of the $2.2 billion recovered, over $1.7 billion pertained to issues within the health care industry. However, this figure does not include additional recoveries that the DOJ aided in obtaining for state entities…
