Whistleblower Attorney to Testify on Importance of Confidentiality for Federal Whistleblowers

Whistleblower Attorney Discusses Potential Chilling Effect On Intelligence Community Whistleblowers
Published On: January 27th, 2020

On Tuesday, January 28th, David K. Colapinto, whistleblower attorney and partner at Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, will testify in front of the United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on Government Operations at 2pm EST in Room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

Colapinto, who is co-founder and general counsel of the National Whistleblower Center, will discuss the need for strengthened protections in the federal whistleblowing community.

The hearing, “Protecting Those Who Blow the Whistle on Government Wrongdoing,” will feature a bipartisan panel of speakers.

With over 30 years of experience representing and advocating for whistleblowers, Colapinto has seen several reform efforts in federal whistleblowing fall short, hindering the ability to safely report waste, fraud, and abuse in the public sector.

Colapinto’s testimony will cover the existing protections for federal employees and offer suggestions for Congressional action to strengthen them.

Damaging rhetoric surrounding the Ukraine whistleblower who sparked the impeachment proceedings into President Trump has caused concern in the whistleblowing community.

Colapinto will discuss the key laws and provisions that protect the confidentiality of federal whistleblowers and the need for increased protection against retaliation.

Mr. Colapinto is available for comment. Contact Ben Kostyack at [email protected].
