Today, the National Whistleblower Center, a whistleblower advocacy group, delivered a petition to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“Commission” or “SEC”) urging the Commission to “reconsider the proposed amendments” to the SEC Whistleblower Program. The petition, signed by 102,595 individuals, is believed to be the largest such petition submitted to the SEC regarding its whistleblower program.

SEC Whistleblower lawyer Stephen M. Kohn is leading efforts to ensure the SEC whistleblower program continues to effectively use whistleblowers to police securities fraud and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. “If approved, the proposed rules will undermine the most successful program protecting investors from frauds,” warns Kohn, a founding partner at qui tam law firm Kohn, Kohn and Colapinto and Chairman of the Board of the National Whistleblower Center.

The Commission postponed a vote on the controversial proposed changes that was scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd. Mr. Kohn applauded this move stating, “It is vitally important that the SEC understands all of the issues and gets this rulemaking right.”
