Noah Lapidus, legal fellow at whistleblower law firm Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, was recently featured in Northeastern Law Magazine.

For four years, Lapidus served as forensic genealogist and legal research assistant at the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project (CRRJ) in Boston. As an undergraduate, Lapidus assisted Holocaust scholar Laurel Leff in finding interviewees for her research.

During the past year, Lapidus was able to finish his Co-op in his native Birmingham, Alabama due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There, Lapidus took on a new challenge: identifying the descendants of the 100-plus black victims of police killings in the Birmingham area from the Jim Crow era.

In March 2020, Lapidus helped organize a CRRJ conference in his hometown, bringing together public officials and family members of those killed by police officers in Jefferson County from 1930 through 1970.

“At Northeastern, we’re taught that litigation is only one resource in the attorney’s toolkit. CRRJ takes this to heart by centering its response on the specific wishes of the relatives, including commemorative markers, memorial services and securing official apologies,” Lapidus told Northeastern Law Magazine.

Noah Lapidus is the recipient of the highly prestigious Estelle S. Kohn Memorial Fellowship awarded by the Northeastern University School of Law.
