Enron Whistleblower and Time Person of the Year 2002 Sherron Watkins to be Featured at National Whistleblower Day
On Friday, July 30th, Enron whistleblower Sherron Watkins will interview attorney Stephen M. Kohn at the 2021 celebration of National Whistleblower Appreciation Day. Watkins and Kohn will discuss the history of National Whistleblower Day and the future of corporate whistleblower laws.
Watkins, who was Vice President of Corporate Development at the Enron Corporation, witnessed massive fraud occurring in the form of accounting irregularities that led to the collapse of Enron in 2001.
The Enron scandal led to the creation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) and other corporate reform laws that included whistleblower provisions.
Watkins was later selected as one of three Persons of the Year by Time magazine in 2002, along with whistleblowers Cynthia Cooper (WorldCom) and Coleen Rowley (FBI).
Kohn is also founder and chairman of the board of the National Whistleblower Center.
Other notable speakers include SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, Senator Charles Grassley, and Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh.
